TakeMeBack and VYA are joining forces to provide children and teens in the townships with a suitable space to study and create new opportunities

TakeMeBack is launching a new mission in South Africa, alongside VYA, an organization founded by an Italian team that works in townships through projects focused on education, sports, food assistance, and vocational training.

In these communities, even having a desk, a blackboard, or the supplies needed to study can make a huge difference. That’s why we’re launching a new fundraising campaign aimed at making tangible improvements to the after-school program attended by the children and teens supported by VYA.

School as an Opportunity

In South Africa, achieving good academic results can offer a real chance to change one’s future. For many children in the townships, however, the path is particularly difficult: according to data collected by VYA, more than 85% fail at least once during their school years. The after-school program was created precisely for this reason: to support children and teens in their studies, help them overcome difficulties, and create the conditions for them to access new opportunities.

The first goal: 1,600 euros for 50 children

The first fundraising goal is 1,600 euros. With this amount, we will purchase desks and school supplies directly in South Africa for 50 children, providing them with a more suitable space in which to study and participate in after-school activities. If the fundraising total exceeds this initial goal, the project will be able to expand further, allowing us to gradually extend our support to reach 150 children and teenagers in the community.

Solidarity Couriers in the Community

The mission will be overseen directly by Vittoria and Matteo, who will serve as TakeMeBack’s Solidarity Couriers for this project in South Africa. They will purchase the supplies directly on site and deliver them to the children. Every stage of the mission will be documented through photos, videos, and updates—from the purchase of desks and school supplies to the final delivery—to show exactly how the donations are being used.

What we will purchase thanks to your donation

The donations will be used to purchase desks and school supplies for 50 children, creating a more suitable environment in which to study and participate in after-school activities every day. Once we reach our first goal of 1,600 euros, every additional contribution will allow us to gradually expand our mission to include 150 children and teens. Simple, essential tools can thus become a real opportunity for them to build their own future.
